If you own a business in the wedding industry you no doubt know the power of Pinterest for your niche. It is one of the top platforms people flock to while planning out every detail of their wedding.
Creating visually compelling pins is one part of the recipe to having success on Pinterest. These are some of the wedding pins I've designed for clients in the wedding business in the past.
The other part of reaching potential customers on Pinterest is writing a detailed text description to accompany your optimized image.
While hashtags are super important on other social platforms, over the years the strategy has been a bit hit or miss on Pinterest. In 2024, though, they have gathered a bit more of attention with the recent addition of the super video collage creation app Shuffles on the platform. In this app, hashtags started to play more of a part in discovery, which seems to have carried over to the other styles of content creation on Pinterest.
If you're not familiar with Shuffles, this video by miscdiaries on YouTube is a good overview of the basic concept of the app.
With that said, the question is whether or not you should worry about adding hashtags to your wedding focused pins? In my experience, it doesn’t hurt. Just follow a few simple rules:
- Only consider adding 3-5 hashtags relevant to your content. (Bonus tip: If you’re using the app suggested hashtags will populate if you start tying in the description. For example, typing #wedding will start to auto-populate with top suggestions!)
- Don’t clutter your text description with your hashtag choices. Add them to the end of text description.
- Consider creating one hashtag specific to your brand & adding it to every post. That way if people click it, they will see a page in Pinterest of all your pins with that hashtag.
